Every single room of the museum deals with an independent thematic area. Among other things, visitors can visit a historical classroom in the Folklore Museum of the City of Bruges, admire the craftsmanship of hat makers, learn in the pharmacy how diseases were once fought with herbs or explore a shoemaker's workshop.
All the workshops have been furnished according to historical models, just as they once were in the cityscape of Bruges. The grocer's store is also particularly popular with young and older visitors. The upper floor of the museum also presents changing exhibitions that skilfully complement the existing fixed theme worlds.
Historical museum tavern and more
A special highlight for many visitors is to stop at the historic museum tavern after visiting the exhibition rooms and enjoy the historic ambience for a while. This is an opportunity to exchange ideas with other visitors. Twice a month, the sugar bakery comes to life and the museum rooms are filled with the delicious smell of freshly made sweets according to an old recipe.
In the courtyard of the museum, folk games are organized, in which every visitor can participate. In addition, the interactive elements of the museum will also delight young visitors in particular, making it easier to immerse themselves in the past and explore the world of their grandparents and great-grandparents.
