Important works of the Renaissance
With its world-famous collection of Old Dutch painting, the Groeninge Museum is one of the tourist highlights in Bruges.

The art museum at the Dijver, opened in 1930, was expanded in 1994 with an annex containing 15 exhibition rooms. On display are works by numerous Old Flemish masters from the 17th to the 20th century, frequent temporary exhibitions, as well as art objects from over six centuries. Widely known is especially the art collection of the "Flemish Primitives" from the art period of the 15th century.

The museum rooms are divided into four categories with Baroque, Neoclassicism, Realism and Renaissance. If you want to learn about the centuries-old development of art in Belgium, the Groeningemuseum is the right choice. .

Among the most famous paintings are those of Jan van Eyck, Gerard David, Hans Memling, Rogier van der Weyden, Hugo van der Goes, Petrus Christus, Pieter Pourbus, Joos van Cleve, Pieter Brueghel the Younger, Jakob van Oost the Elder, Salomon van Ruysdael, Joseph-Denis Odevaere, Joseph-Benoît Suvée, Paul Delvaux, Henry van de Velde and René Magritte.
