The Hallwylska Museum (Hallwylska museet) shows the splendid town apartment and art collection of the Swiss Count Walther von Hallwyl and his wife Wilhelmina.

Built in 1893-98 by architect Isak Gustaf Clason, the house is located in the Östermalm district at Hamngatan 4, just across from Berzelius Park.

The 2,000 square meter apartment with 40 rooms was extremely modern for its time: so there was already electricity, telephone a bathroom and heating.

Wilhelmina von Hallwyl was a passionate art collector, and in 1920 she stipulated in her will that the house, with its collection of over 50,000 art objects (including paintings, sculptures, furniture, porcelain, carpets, silver and ceramics), should be preserved as a museum after her death.
