The island, including its small archipelago, was inhabited centuries ago. It was part of the shipping channel that ran between Sweden's coast and Reval in Estonia. In the Middle Ages, the rural development was destroyed by fires, and the rebuilding formed the basis for today's settlements.
Namdö is easily accessible by public transport. Then, undisturbed enjoyment of nature on the main island and the surrounding small islands is the order of the day: dark blue sea, gray rocks, light blue sky and lush green trees present themselves in colors that appear particularly clear. The rocks around are sometimes quite smooth and sometimes chapped and furrowed. But their outer shape is always rounded by water, wind and ice. The particularly beautiful islands of the central Stockholm archipelago, such as Bullerö, Gillinge, Bisköpsö, Jungfruskär and Långviksskär, stretch out towards the open sea.
On Namdö the beaches are located in the west and in the north. Red deer, moose and badgers can be seen in the large forest area. Sea eagles often circle in the sky; they come from the nearby bird sanctuary.
As everywhere on the islands, Namdö's inhabitants are especially friendly to their guests. On Namdö there are several shopping facilities and a nice simple café with local delicacies and a wide view over the water. There are natural harbors in Solvik, Östanvik and Långvik. Besides sailing, there are various sports activities such as hiking, jogging, boating, swimming and fishing.
