Neu-Ulm

Travel Guide & Travel Information
The border town on the Danube in the far west of Bavaria currently has just under 59,000 inhabitants, making it the third-largest city in the administrative district of Swabia. As the name suggests, Neu-Ulm is quite young: it was founded in 1810, when the older and larger Ulm lost its status as an imperial city and became part of Württemberg through an exchange of territory. Neu-Ulm, which was henceforth Bavarian, did not grow into a city until the construction of a federal fortress in the mid-19th century. With the withdrawal of the US Army in 1991, almost 150 years as a garrison town came to an end. Housing estates have sprung up on the former barracks areas. Green oases are the Kollmannspark with the landmark water tower from 1898 and the city park Glacis.
