Formally, Norderstedt, which borders the northern districts of Hamburg, is a city, but in fact the city of 80,000 inhabitants, founded in 1970, is merely the loose union of the almost village-like towns of Garstedt, Harksheide, Glashütte and Friedrichsgabe. Even half a century after the city was founded, no actual city center has yet developed. This absence, however, does have its charm. Norderstedt offers its residents and guests an extraordinarily diverse range of opportunities to engage in sports. The offer for families to relax in leisure activities in Norderstedt is also extremely attractive.
