Oberhausen

Travel Guide & Travel Information
Oberhausen in the Lower Rhine proudly bears the epithet "cradle of the Ruhr industry". As early as 1758, an ironworks began operations in what is now the city. Today, the town with its "Neue Mitte" stands for the successful structural change in the "Pott". In addition to Oberhausen Castle, an impressive classicist building, you will find many remodeled witnesses of the past industrial culture. One of these new landmarks is the "Gasometer". The former part of a steelworks is now a well-known event and exhibition venue. From its viewing platform you can enjoy a wide view over the cultural landscape of the Ruhr area. A symbol of a different kind is the huge shopping center "CentrO", which decisively shapes Oberhausen's reputation as a shopping mecca.
