The volcanic island of Pantelleria belongs to the Sicilian province of Trapani, but geographically it is almost near Tunisia. The island owes its existence to 300,000 years of volcanic activity. To this day, fumaroles and hot springs indicate its history of origin. Today the island is inhabited primarily by Italians. Originally, Arabs were resident here, who once called Pantelleria Daughter of the Wind. The few tourists encounter numerous natural spectacles such as the turquoise lake named Mirror of Venus or the Elephant Arch, a rock formation similar to an elephant's head. Culinary lovers also get their money's worth. Pantelleria spoils with specialties like the dessert wine Passito or the caper cream Salsa ai Capperi di Pantelleria, which is characteristic for the island.
