Surrounded by lakes and moors, Peine presents itself as a picturesque small town on the Mittelland Canal. The city park invites you to a historical walk. You walk past old monuments and through narrow alleys over to the Burgpark. Archaeological excavations took place in the castle park in 1998. Here an escarpment wall was uncovered, which was connected with the bastion wall. Peine is a German city in the southeast of the federal state of Lower Saxony, around 34 km east of the state capital Hannover. There are about 50.000 inhabitants living in Peine.
