Ponza is one of the two inhabited islands of the Pontine Islands, a small group of volcanic islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The municipality of Ponza also includes the uninhabited neighboring islands of La Botte, Gavi, Palmarola and Zannone. The island's harbor is lined with pastel-colored cottages arranged like a crescent-shaped amphitheater. The crystal clear sea is often compared to the waters of the Caribbean due to its intense coloration. The rich variety of fish can be explored during relaxed snorkeling or diving trips. Particularly popular is the moon bay Chiaia di Luna, which can be reached via an ancient tunnel dating back to Roman times.
