Transportation in Gothenburg

Streetcars

Gothenburg is known for its extensive streetcar network, one of the largest in Northern Europe. The streetcars form the backbone of public transport in the city and provide a convenient connection between the different parts of the city and some suburbs.

Buses

In addition to the streetcars, Gothenburg has a dense bus network that covers areas not directly served by the streetcars. There are both urban and regional bus lines connecting Gothenburg with the surrounding cities and rural areas.

Ferries

Due to Gothenburg's location on the Swedish west coast, ferries play an important role in the public transportation system. They connect the city with the numerous islands of the Gothenburg archipelago. The ferries are not only attractive for tourists, but are also used by locals for their daily commute.
