Rhodos
Just 70 kilometers southeast of Kos is the fourth largest island of Greece Rhodes, which is also the main island of the Dodecanese archipelago in the southeast Aegean Sea. About half of the population of Rhodes lives in the capital of the same name, which is located on the northeastern tip of the island and with its approximately 60,000 inhabitants forms the tourist center. Right at the entrance to the port, you will be greeted by the statues of Elafos and Elafina, perched on pillars. The jumping deer Elafos is the heraldic animal of the island. Rhodes is also known for its interesting archaeological sites.
The ferry port on the island of Rhodes offers connections to the other Greek islands of Agathonisi, Chalki, Amorgos, Samos, Karpathos, Nisyros, Kalymnos, Kos, Thira, Ikaria, Milos, Lipsi, Fournoi, Crete, Patmos, Syros, Astypalea, Tilos, Symi, Arki, Kasos, Leros, Kastelorizo and Anafi, as well as to the ferry port of Piraeus on the Greek mainland. A total of 32 routes are offered here several times a day by the shipping companies Dodekanisos Seaways, Sky Marine, SeaJets, Blue Star Ferries, Anek Lines, Sebeco Lines, Sea Dreams and Hellenic Seaways.
Kalymnos
If you are an ambitious sport climber, then the island of Kalymnos, which covers an abundant 100 km², is an almost ideal destination in the Aegean Sea. The village of Massouri in the west of the island is the tourist center. From here you can go to the climbing hotspots. Kalymnos is the island name, and the island capital of the same name is alternatively called Pothia. The trip here takes half an hour by ferry from Kos. Historical sights are the castle of Chora or the white rock monastery in the village of Panormos in the west of the island. On Kalymnos you can enjoy a sunny vacation all year round - for example in the bathing paradise at Vlichadia Beach or at the beach of Palionisos.
