The ferry from Rio Marina to Pianosa connects the two Italian islands of
Elba and
Pianosa. The route is offered by the shipping company
Toremar. The journey time is about 1 hour and 50 minutes.
Pianosa
Not far from the island of Elba is the small island of Pianosa. Like Elba, Pianosa is part of the Tuscan Archipelago, but with its area of about ten square kilometers it is much smaller. It is known for being the flattest of the Tuscan islands. Visitors are won over by its extensive beaches full of white sand and unique turquoise sea water. The entire island, as well as the surrounding sea, belongs to a nature reserve, which is why Pianosa can only be visited during a guided tour of the island. Another reason is its existence as a prison island. To this day, prisoners from Elba are housed there. However, you will look in vain for a prison. Rather, the prisoners run a restaurant and are allowed to move around freely.
The ferry port on the island of Pianosa offers connections to the island of Elba as well as to the ferry port of Piombino on the Italian mainland. The routes Pianosa - Rio Marina and Pianosa - Piombino are offered here several times a week by the shipping company Toremar.
