The island of Samos with its approximately 33,000 inhabitants is located in the eastern Aegean Sea close to the coast of Asia Minor, about 70 kilometers south of the Turkish city of Izmir. The main town of the same name in the northeast is still known to many under the name of Kato Vathy or Limin Vatheos. In the west, the Kerkis massif rises steeply out of the sea. Here the mountain Vigla reaches a height of over 1,400 meters. A visit to the ancient ruins on this island is also worthwhile.
