Samothrace attracts with numerous small, original beaches from the black pebble Kipos Beach to the popular Pachia Ammos. Poseidon is said to have watched the Battle of Troy from Mount Fengari. From the village of Profitis Ilias you can climb the high, bare granite mountain yourself and, on a clear day, see as far as Asia Minor. On the way back, the charming mountain village with its taverns invites you to linger. Once Samothrace was an important trading center. Ruins of fortresses and towers tell of Byzantium and the Ottoman Empire. In the sanctuary of the Great Gods, the Kabirs, the famous Nike of Samothrace was once found, which is now in the Louvre.
