San Nicola is located in the Adriatic Sea and belongs to the province of Foggia in Puglia. It is the third largest island of the popular Tremiti archipelago. Even from a distance, the island resembles a fortress. The Benedictine monks built a fortress here in the 9th century, which was subjected to a number of attacks throughout its history. On the top of the mainland is the historic Santa Maria a Mare church, consecrated in 1045 AD, which attracts a large number of visitors year after year.
