The elongated island of São Jorge, located between Graciosa and Pico, leaves an extraordinarily green impression even at first glance. The lush green of the many picturesque pastures dominates the picture. In fact, São Jorge is famous primarily for the cheese produced here, but the island has more to offer. For example, a rugged coastline that sometimes seems almost wild, where natural pools of seawater can be found. Or the so-called fajãs, which are plains formed by landslides at the foot of the steep coast. The main town Velas attracts with a pretty harbor, a historical fortress and a small pedestrian zone.
