If one were to look at Terceira from the air, one might notice that the settlements and villages are located exclusively along the coast. The interior of the almost 30-kilometer-long island is reserved for pastures and agriculture and the former vent of a volcano, 100 meters deep and accessible. Hot springs, sulfur holes and lava tunnels can also be found there. The city of Angra do Heroísmo, whose historic city center is a World Heritage Site and whose numerous monuments around the cathedral invite visitors to take a tour, is also particularly worth seeing. Outside the city, many picturesque bays with beautiful swimming opportunities await visitors.
