Trier

Travel Guide & Travel Information
Trier belongs to the Moselle wine region of Rhineland-Palatinate. The Romans had founded the city in 16 BC as Augusta Treverorum, which can be seen in some well-preserved Roman monuments. These include the Porta Nigra (gate of the 6.4 km long city wall), an amphitheater, a stone bridge and remains of Roman bathhouses. Other finds are on display at the Rheinisches Landesmuseum. Because of the date of its foundation, the former Roman imperial residence of Trier claims for itself the status of the oldest German city. The most important historical building is the Trier Cathedral.
