Tromsø

Travel Guide & Travel Information
Tromsø lies north of the Arctic Circle and thus already in the Arctic. The port city on the island of Tromsöja is connected to the mainland by a boldly curved bridge.

The city of Tromsø

In winter, Tromsø offers the best viewing spots for the magic of the Northern Lights. The city is also known as the "Paris of the North" because of its lively student-driven cultural and restaurant scene. Nowhere else in the country are there so many hotels, restaurants and pubs in proportion to the number of inhabitants as in Tromsø.

Good to know: It may well happen that the snow remains until the end of May, when the midnight sun already shows itself. Therefore, in the period from May 23 to July 23, the chairs are placed outside to sit under the open sky even late in the evening - sometimes wrapped up thickly.
Even if the ice sea city gives itself everything else as undercooled, the landmark is the modern ice sea cathedral. Actually, the church is called "Tromsdalen Kirke. However, immediately after its inauguration, it was associated with an iceberg due to its large, bright fields and triangular shape.

One thing is certain: The picturesque location in the middle of the Sund and island landscape with its sometimes southern-looking vegetation gives Tromsø its very special flair.
Tip: It is worthwhile to start for the bay at Laksvatn despite a cloudy sky. Usually the sky clears up and you can experience an incomparable dance of lights.
