Surrounded by several other islands in the Stockholm archipelago, Tynningö lies south of Rindö. At the southern tip of the island, which is about ten kilometers long, there is busy Baltic Sea shipping traffic via Stockholm and Mariefred. The island becomes a popular vacation destination in the summer, not least because of the beautiful maritime nature that is open to all holidaymakers. A network of well-maintained hiking and biking trails is available for walks, hikes and bike rides. In addition, there are many sports activities, cultural events, shopping, cafes and restaurants.

Centuries ago there was a royal hunting lodge on the island. Later, the area was divided into many small peasant feudal farms until the first summer guests came to the archipelago.

The nature on Tynningö is varied with coniferous and deciduous forests. In the eastern part of Tynningö is "Tynningö Klack", with about 30 meters above sea level the highest mountain on the island. From there there are beautiful views far over the archipelago. Approximately in the middle of the island is the inland lake Stora Maren with a length of about 1.5 kilometers.

Tynningö is also home to a winery. The very northern located winery is called Rudhesheim Winery. Here, grape varieties such as Grenache Blanc and Riesling are cultivated quite successfully.

Excursions to the neighboring islands are recommended. For example, Nacka Golf Club is a popular destination for the golf community. Tynningö offers its visitors cultural activities at any time of the year. Traditional are the celebrations of Midsommar. In addition, a Christmas market is held from the end of November until December, which is particularly atmospheric due to Swedish traditions and the close proximity to the sea.
