Since the end of the 19th century, the archipelago island of Blidö has been a popular tourist destination in the Swedish region of Roslagen. This area is located just north of the Swedish metropolis Stockholm. There is beautiful maritime nature everywhere, and Blidö is no exception. In addition, there are many opportunities to spend relaxing days by the sea. They range from sporting activities to interesting museum exhibitions on the culture of the region and a relaxing seaside vacation.

The larger island of Blidö belongs to the middle archipelago off Stockholm. It once consisted of four islands Oxhalsö, Västerö, Sikmarö and Blidö, which have grown together over the past centuries.
A particularly well protected strait between Blidö and Yxlan has always attracted sailors. Thus, the "Sandkirlana" sailed here. The name for the freighters came from their cargo, which consisted of sand for building houses and roads in Stockholm. The freighter fleet had its heyday just before the end of the 19th century, today there is only one remaining freighter named "Helmi" with Blidö as its home port.
Besides seafaring and fishing, the inhabitants of the archipelago were also engaged in agriculture and hunting.

Blidö is easily accessible by public transport, i.e. public buses, by car and ferries. The ferries dock in the small harbor, which also offers moorings for sailors and the necessary infrastructure. Guests of the archipelago see a fertile nature with beautiful deciduous forest areas. Here are opportunities for hiking tours and cycling.

The local museum Hembygsmuseet is housed in a well-preserved boatswain's hut. The Båtmansstuga dates from the 17th century. Also worth seeing is Blidö Kyrka, built in 1859 on the remains of an old chapel from the 16th century.

In addition to cottage offers and the bed & breakfast accommodation option, Blidö Wärdshus has good accommodation offers. The Wärdshus is a cultural center on Blidö. There is a restaurant and meeting rooms here, as well as a sauna. In addition, bicycles and kayaks can be rented on site and boat tours to the islands of the outer Stockholm archipelago can be booked.
