Patmos
Patmos - the Jerusalem of the Aegean, the place where John wrote down the Revelation, shines with mythological and Christian magic. Originally, Zeus is said to have given the island to his daughter Artemis. Beautiful beaches next to picturesque cliffs await you, green hills with olive trees, ancient sites and monuments. A visit to the monastery of St. John is a must, here you can also visit the cave where John had his visions. Besides this monastery, the island has many other sites of religious life. Often, the ancient and the Christian are right next to each other, like the ruins of the temple of Apollo next to the church of St. Constantine in Chora.
The ferry port on the island of Patmos offers connections to the other Greek islands of Agathonisi, Lesbos, Samos, Karpathos, Nisyros, Kalymnos, Kos, Ikaria, Lipsi, Chios, Rhodes, Fournoi, Syros, Astypalea, Tilos, Symi, Arki, Kasos, Leros, Kastelorizo and Limnos, as well as to the ports of Piraeus and Kavala on the Greek mainland. A total of 25 routes are offered here several times a day by the shipping companies Blue Star Ferries, Dodekanisos Seaways and Hellenic Seaways.
Nisyros
The almost 50 km² large island of Nisyros is located south of Kos, not far from the Turkish mainland. Typical for Greek villages are also here the whitewashed houses with their colorful shutters. The narrow streets and alleys invite you to stroll and linger. An eye-catcher are the numerous floor mosaics, also called Hohlakia or Chochlakia. The no longer active volcano of Nisyros is worth a trip, as is the idyllic mountain village of Nikia, like Emporios as a village in proverbial slumber or like Pachia Ammos, the most beautiful beach of Nisyros.
