The archipelago island of Ingarö is less than twenty minutes away by car via a bridge to the mainland and is also easily accessible by public transport. This is because the connections to Stockholm have been consistently expanded in the past. With about 60 square kilometers, the island has a rather medium size, but offers its vacation guests with a particularly varied maritime nature, picturesque villages, restaurants, cafes, boutiques, beaches and various well-kept sports facilities numerous opportunities.

Well-maintained sports facilities include several tennis courts and a 36-hole golf course. The most popular bathing place is Björkvig near Nämdöfjärden. Ingarö's bathing beaches are complemented by a nudist beach at Återvallssjön, formerly the first of its kind in the Swedish Kingdom. Typical for Ingarö are many rural lake properties, which often have their own bathing beaches. Forest, horse paddocks and the sea are characteristic of the nature on the island.

The Swedish aviation pioneer Carl Cederström is known in his homeland as Kalle Flygare. He found his final resting place in the cemetery of the archipelago island near the main town of Brunn. The famous jazz pianist Bror Fredrik "Esbjörn" Svensson, frontman of the Esbjörn Svensson Trio, died on Ingarö in 2008 at the age of 44 as a result of a diving accident.

Because of its beautiful nature and typical villages, the island of Ingarö has been a popular filming location for various film productions, such as parts of the Daniel Craig film "Girl with a Dragon Tattoo" and "Sunds Summer" from 1993.
