Innsbruck is located in the west of Austria and is the capital of the state of Tyrol. Currently, more than 300,000 people have their primary residence in the Innsbruck metropolitan area. In addition, there are about 30,000 students of the Innsbruck University and other people with a secondary residence. This makes Innsbruck the fifth largest city in Austria after Vienna, Linz, Graz and Salzburg.

Where to go first in Innsbruck?

In the old town of Innsbruck is the Golden Roof. This late Gothic oriel is considered the city's landmark. The special feature of it: the roof was covered with more than 2,600 fire-gilded copper shingles. The oriel was built between 1497 and 1500 by order of the German king (and later emperor) Maximilian I. Since 2007, the building has also housed the "Museum Goldenes Dachl".

Which museums are recommended?

If you are in Innsbruck, you should definitely pay a visit to Ambras Castle. It is one of the most important sights of the city. A guided tour of about one hour offers a small insight into the wonderful world of the Renaissance through the collections of Archduke Ferdinand II. This takes place from December to April on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m.; during the rest of the year, the guided tour is offered daily at 11 a.m.
Those who would like to experience live how a bell is cast can do so at the Grassmayr bell foundry. The museum is open every Wednesday from 10 am to 4 pm.
For those whose heart beats more for science, a visit to the Audioversum is recommended. This is an interactive museum on the subject of hearing. The visit is possible from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 5 pm.

Numerous ski areas around the city at a low all-inclusive price.

Around Innsbruck are numerous ski areas such as the Kühtai or the Patscherkofel. With the Ski Plus City Pass, a total of 13 different ski areas and 22 city experiences in Innsbruck can be used with just one card at a flat rate. The 2-day pass currently costs 114 euros for adults. Children pay half price.

Sports Capital Innsbruck

Innsbruck has twice hosted the Winter Olympics, in 1964 and 1976. Even today, numerous sports facilities still bear witness to these events. These include, for example, the bobsleigh track in Igls.
Very popular, however, is the ski jump on Mount Isel, where every year in January the third competition of the Four Hills Tournament takes place. Watching the jumpers live once practicing their sport is a real experience.
