Sandhamn is located far out to sea in the Stockholm archipelago. The archipelago can be reached by ship. But the ship connections are excellent and so especially in summer many families looking for recreation with their children, but also many young people enjoy the vacation in Sandhamn. The island is extremely popular with the international yachting community. Because Sandhamn is a renowned sailing center and thus the venue for numerous regattas.
Scattered over the rugged cliffs are many falun red summer cottages and colorful fishermen's cabins. The scent of wild rose hedges fills the air in summer. The bathing beaches are excellent, such as the white sandy beach of Trouville on the southern side of the island. This beach is less than a 20-minute walk from Sandhamn through blueberry fields and pine forests.
Spicy pine scents enrich the delightful, healthy sea air in winter, when peace has come to Sandön. A trip to the nearby small island of Grönskär with the old octagonal lighthouse called "Queen of the Baltic" is recommended.
