Stavanger
The city of Stavanger
Cobblestone streets, nostalgic street lamps and 173 small, white wooden houses: while the alleys of the old town west of Vågen harbor bay are tranquil, the shore on the other side is dominated by restaurants, pubs and shopping streets.
From the old fire reporting tower Valbergtårnet, the landmark of the city, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view over parts of the old town and the fjord. In addition, Stavanger inspires with beautiful sandy beaches and dune landscapes that begin to the south. The most beautiful are Orrestranda and Borestranda, about 15 kilometers south of the airport.
Stavanger is one of the oldest cities in the country. The city was founded as early as the 8th century, but then developed slowly and did not receive its city rights until 1425. In the 17th century, it was finally an important trading city - a century later, fishing and shipyards represented its wealth. Today, Stavanger declares itself the oil city of Norway and offers an excellent infrastructure along with a university.
